M-COTE™ is a low-temperature FNC process developed specifically for the mold industry. Ferritic Nitrocarburizing is not a coating but rather a thermal chemical diffusion process that alters the base material’s structure at the molecular level.

M-COTE™ forms a hard, ductile compound layer with hardnesses capable of exceeding Rockwell C 70. This surface oxide layer prevents corrosion, reduces friction friction, increases wear resistance and tool life, and retains mold release compounds during usage.

M-COTE™ advantages
  • M-COTE™ outperforms nitride and chrome on mold applications without some of the negative environmental issues.
  • M-COTE™ provides more than 250 hours of salt spray resistance in ASTM B117 testing.
  • M-COTE™ process meets 2757B requirements.
